Well Questions Do wells go dry? Sometimes a well goes dry; however it is usually not the case. Typically the screen just closes up due to iron and/or other material. Is it the deeper you go the better the H2O? Not always the case. Mother nature is not quite that predictable. Do you witch for water? C&J does not “witch” or “dowse” for water. How do you know where to drill? We always recommend starting in the place that makes the most mechanical sense. If that fails, we have top secret ways of finding H2O. What is pressure grout? A bentonite clay slurry that we pump in the annular space between the bore hole and outer wall of your casing to protect against surface contamination. . What stage of new construction do you normally drill? Mid way through framing if you want temporary water or when framing is done if not. How do I find out about well depths in my area? Thank you for your interest. How long does a well last? Most often we are finding them to last 30-50 years. How much should I budget for a new well? 4-6 thousand is the average “budget” figure we advise people to plug in for a well and pump system. How long does a pump last? We have pulled them out forty years old; however the books state the average is 12-15 years. How about the “constant pressure” pump? It has only been on the market since approximately 1998, so we aren’t quite sure yet. So far we are impressed with them though. Where does my pressure tank go? Three choices here…basement, crawl, or garage. Where does C&J stop and the plumber/electrician take over on new construction? C&J installs everything up to the pressure tank including the trenching between the house and the well. What forms of payment do you accept? Cash, check, and charge. Do you finance wells? If you call the office and request a credit application, we may be able to get you financed. How deep is the average well? This all depends on your specific area. We do find 120ft. to be the average. What happens if we drill a “dry hole”? In the event we hit a dry hole, we credit the price of the drilling toward another attempt. How much does a dry hole cost? 2/3 of the normal drilling cost.
